French Espelette with chilli spiced Basque pate 70g

The story goes that one winter day, a hungry traveller was passing through the village. A poor couple shared with him shelter in their modest hut and some soup.

A guest poured red powder into the cold soup. The house was not heated due to lack of wood, but they did not get cold and the meal was delicious thanks to this special powder.

Before they left, a guest gave them some chilli seeds and taught them how to grow them. This is how the Espelette chilli originated.
